On Wednesday 5 March, the Government held a more detailed discussion on the Room for Growth working group’s proposals to boost economic growth in Finland. The members of the Government split up into small groups chaired by the leaders of the government parties to discuss the different themes of the report: people, competencies and skills; operating conditions for growth companies; the energy market and the clean, green transition; and the defence industry.

“The discussions were fruitful, and we will be making decisions on the proposals at the Government’s mid-term policy review session in April at the latest. It is clear that Finland needs more measures to boost growth. All 41 measures proposed by Risto Murto’s working group will be taken into account in the Government's deliberations,” Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said.

Prime Minister Orpo led the small group that focused on the defence industry.

“We need to come up with solutions that support the growth of the defence industry and increase defence exports in the changed global situation. I see significant opportunities for Finnish industry in this area, and we should now move systematically but swiftly. Growth in the defence industry improves our self-sufficiency and supports the development of capabilities,” the Prime Minister said.

In its seminar on 4 and 5 March, the Government has been laying the groundwork for the mid-term policy review. The goal of the seminar was to create a shared picture of the current state of Finland’s economy and the implementation of the Government Programme towards the middle of the government term, and to discuss the proposals for growth measures presented by the Room for Growth working group led by CEO Risto Murto.
