14.3.2025 | In its meeting on Friday 14 March, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs defined the Government’s main priorities for exerting influence on the European Commission’s work programme for 2025, which was published on 11 February. The Ministerial Committee also discussed the European Commission’s Communication on the Competitiveness Compass and its Vision for Agriculture and Food. In addition, the Ministerial Committee outlined Finland’s positions for four upcoming council meetings.

The space sector and its geopolitical operating environment have changed significantly in recent years. There are around 200 companies operating in the sector in Finland and their turnover has tripled in 2018–2022.

The security of communications networks is extensively regulated in the Act on Electronic Communications Services. Its provisions contain obligations to ensure that the security of communications networks is, above all, proactively safeguarded though retroactive measures may be used where necessary.

24.2.2025 | Finland has been active in responding to Ukraine’s need for assistance. Finland has delivered more than 100 vehicles to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The latest consignment of 16 vehicles was delivered during the first weeks of February. Finland has also delivered more than 400 truckloads of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the EU mechanism.

20.6.2024 | On 20 June 2024, the Government appointed a National Emergency Supply Council for the period of 1 July 2024–31 December 2026. Topi Manner, Chief Executive Officer of Elisa Oyj, was invited to chair the Council, while Timo Jaatinen, Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will serve as vice-chair. The Council will have 26 members.

21.8.2024 | Sweden's Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren and Finland's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah visited the National Emergency Supply Agency on 20 August. The Finnish and Swedish Governments aim to develop economic cooperation, and exchange of information and communications related to security of supply.

29.1.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit Stockholm on 29 January 2024. This is Minister Ranne’s first official visit to Sweden. She will meet Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson and Minister for Public Administration Erik Slottner.

However, one anniversary was already observed last week on 15 February, when it had been exactly two years since the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following Ukraine’s request for assistance.
