13.6.2025 | On 13 June, the President of the Republic appointed Member of Parliament, PhD Sakari Puisto to serve as Minister of Economic Affairs and as a member of the Government, and Member of Parliament, entrepreneur and Olympic athlete Mika Poutala as Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity and as a member of the Government.

24.1.2025 | On 24 January, the President of the Republic appointed Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala, Master of Science in Economics, to the post of Minister of Climate and the Environment and Member of Parliament Mari-Leena Talvitie, Master of Science in Engineering, as a member of the Government and as the new Minister of Science and Culture.

30.8.2024 | The President of the Republic has released Mari Rantanen from her duties as Minister of the Interior and her membership in the Government at her request. In the same session, the President of the Republic designated Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne to assume the Minister of the Interior’s duties and appointed her Minister of Transport, Communications and the Interior.

5.7.2024 | On 5 July, the President of the Republic appointed Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz to the post of Minister of Education and Member of Parliament Joakim Strand as the new Minister of European Affairs and Ownership Steering.

9.9.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will travel to Brussels on Tuesday 10 September. There, he will meet with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who has been elected to lead the new Commission as well. Prime Minister Orpo will then meet for discussions with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who has also been elected for a new term.

22.8.2024 | On Thursday 22 August, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed Finland’s participation in informal ministerial meetings during the Hungarian EU Council Presidency, efforts to advance Finland’s EU policy priorities and two upcoming informal council meetings.

1.12.2023 | An internal working group of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, appointed by Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, has completed its final report on a reform of the Foreign Service. The group presented its report to the Minister on 1 December 2023.

24.1.2023 | The development of premises used by central government authorities is being continued. The aim is to increase the security and reliability of properties used by authorities.

6.7.2023 | On Thursday 6 July, the President of the Republic appointed Wille Rydman, Master of Social Sciences, as the new Minister of Economic Affairs. The President also released Vilhelm Junnila from his duties as Minister of Economic Affairs and as a member of the Government.

26.1.2023 | The Government has decided to keep the annual payments of the state-subsidised rental housing and right of occupancy housing loans (ARAVA) at the same level as in 2022. No adjustment according to the consumer price index will be made in 2023. The decision will curb the pressures to raise rents and management fees in the current situation where the property management costs and the residents’ living costs are also rising rapidly.
