Ministerial Working Group on Health and Social Services proposes lighter restrictions on food and beverage service businesses

On 13 September, the Ministerial Working Group on Health and Social Services discussed the COVID-19 situation in Finland and the restrictions in place. The Ministerial Working Group proposes easing the restrictions on food and beverage service businesses. The Government will decide on the matter at an extraordinary session on 14 September.

The relevant decree would enter into force on Thursday 16 September 2021, and it would remain in force until 31 October 2021.  

The Ministerial Working Group decided to propose that the restrictions be eased as follows:

  • In areas where the epidemic is at a stable level, customers would no longer be required to have their own seats.
  • In areas in the acceleration phase, the opening and licensing hours of food and beverage service businesses should be extended.
    • Alcohol could be served between 7.00 and 1.00.
    • Opening hours could range from 5.00 to 2.00.
  • In areas in the community transmission phase, the opening and licensing hours of food and beverage service businesses should be extended.
    • Alcohol could be served between 7.00 and 23.00.
    • Opening hours could range from 5.00 to 00.00.

In addition, the baseline restrictions would be applied to food and beverage service businesses in North Karelia owing to the improved epidemiological situation.
