Doctor of Social Sciences Pilvi Torsti, 37, has been nominated as the State Secretary at the Ministry for Education and Culture.
Since 2011 Torsti has worked as the Special Advisor of the Minister of Employment. Defending her thesis in 2004 Dr. Torsti has published numerous books and articles and overseen pioneering research projects at the University of Helsinki her latest publication being "The Finns and history" (Gaudeamus 2012). 2005-2006 she directed an educational initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which resulted in the establishment of the first multi-national high school, United World College in Mostar, in the post-war Bosnia.
April-May 2013 Torsti was the representative of Finland in Eisenhower Fellowships leadership development program in the United States. Torsti is a member of the city council and city board of Helsinki.
