The Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme promotes the development and introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies in companies. The programme focuses on several sectors in industry and the service sector. The programme steering group will be headed by Jussi Herlin, Vice Chairman of the board of directors of Kone Oyj.

“With the Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme, Finland aims to strengthen digitalisation and economic growth. Encouraging cooperation between different sectors, increasing investments in digitalisation and, in particular, improving digital skills in SMEs are the key objectives of the programme,” says Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

“Investments in education will be complemented with investments in artificial intelligence. Finland will be successful when we have the best possible conditions to create innovations that produce well-being – both economic and other kind. The Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme aims to achieve sustainable innovations and a digital transformation of society,” Minister Lintilä adds.

Programme based on EU objectives and Finland’s AI strategy

The purpose of the programme is to formulate the objectives and measures to promote digitalisation in Finland. Particular attention should be paid to SMEs, increases in digital investment and European cooperation.

The programme will contribute to the recovery of companies and the economy from the coronavirus pandemic. According to the European Commission, digitalisation is one of the key means to generate new economic growth.

Finland was among the first EU countries to create a national AI strategy, on which the current programme is based. The programme combines AI technologies with a wide range of other digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things, 3D printing, robotics, quantum computing and virtual and augmented reality.
