Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and President of the European Council António Costa met in Brussels on Friday 20 March. In the meeting, Prime Minister Orpo emphasized the need to continue to support Ukraine in all possible ways and highlighted Finland’s positions on the multiannual financial framework for 2028–2034.

Their discussion was a continuation of talks held at the European Council meeting on Thursday 19 March. Prime Minister Orpo told President Costa that Finland supports the EU’s financial framework reforms.

“However, the overall level of funding in the proposed framework is too high. Decisions on funding should also take into account Finland’s position as a Member State on Europe’s eastern border,” Prime Minister Orpo said in Brussels.

The EU leaders will discuss the multiannual financial framework at all European Council meetings this year.
