Finland to chair OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris – Prime Minister Orpo to meet French President Macron

Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 3 June. Finland will chair the meeting for the first time in more than 40 years. Several ministers from Finland will attend the meeting. In Paris, Prime Minister Orpo will also have a bilateral meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron.

Finland will be represented at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting on 3–4 June by the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Riikka Purra, Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio and Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. The Finnish ministers will chair several sessions during the two meeting days.

Finland will chair the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting for the first time since 1984. The Vice-Chairs will be New Zealand and South Korea. The main theme of the meeting is developing industrial policies in ways that support industrial renewal, keep markets open, spur sustainable economic growth and promote wellbeing in society.

The OECD produces research data and analyses about economic and social policy and offers recommendations, standards and best practices for policy-making that supports prosperity, equality, opportunities and wellbeing. The OECD promotes multilateral solutions to global challenges. It has 38 member countries, and the EU also participates in its work. The OECD was established in 1961.
