Finland will allocate EUR 3 million to support UN Women’s Ukraine Country Programme for the years 2026–2028. This long term commitment underscores Finland’s dedication to advancing the rights of women and girls and contributing to Ukraine’s reconstruction. Strengthening gender equality also supports Ukraine’s path toward EU approximation.

“Supporting UN Women in Ukraine is an investment in the country’s resilience and its gender equality efforts. Through this funding, we aim to promote the rights and agency of women and girls living in crisis-affected areas,” says Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio.

Gender Equality as a Cornerstone of Ukraine’s Reconstruction

UN Women works closely with Ukrainian authorities and civil society to advance gender equality. The goal of Finland’s support is to ensure equal access to services and decision-making for all, and to help build a sustainable future. UN Women also collaborates actively with the private sector.

Finland Highlights Women’s Economic Participation

Ukrainian women have demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial initiative throughout the war. They have founded start-ups, developed new services and strengthened economic resilience.

Through UN Women, Finland aims to:

  • promote women’s engagement in the private sector,
  • support innovation and digitalisation,
  • ensure that Ukrainian women have the opportunity to shape reconstruction solutions.

A core principle of Finland’s assistance is the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities.

Finland—A Long-standing Partner to UN Women

UN Women’s global work has achieved significant results, and Finland is its second-largest donor. The newly granted funding for Ukraine will further reinforce Finland’s role as a strong advocate for equality.
