Foreign Ministry's stand at the Travel Fair gives information on safe travel
At the Travel Fair, the Foreign Ministry tells about travel safety issues: what a travel bulletin is and how a travel notification can now be filed easily on a new website. At the same time, information is given on how to travel sustainably.
The MATKA 2013 Travel Fair takes place at the Helsinki Convention and Exhibition Centre and is open to the public from Friday, 18 January to Sunday, 20 January. Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will be present at our stand, 6D121, on Friday, 18 January at about 15:00, and he will be interviewed on the main stage at 15:30.
At the fair, consular assistance experts from the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Services department will speak about travel safety. Jussi Tanner, Head of the crisis and assistance team, will be interviewed on Saturday, 19 January at 13:00.
Before a holiday it is advisable to see to the three Ts of travel safety: Travel insurance, Travel bulletin, and Travel notification. It is also advisable to follow the Foreign Ministry and our embassies on the social media. Additional information is obtainable on the Foreign Ministry’s travel pages: formin.finland.fi/matkustus.
The new travel notification, which can now be made more easily than ever, is also presented at the Foreign Ministry’s stand. Filing a travel notification is recommended especially for all independent travellers.
Sustainable tourism involves taking account of the local environment and, for example, off-season holiday travel. Travel to an unknown or remote site is not necessarily an environmental act. Having a holiday in a new site often consumes more energy and the site may not always have means for waste management.
