Press release

Today, on 19 March 2020, the Government appointed a parliamentary committee to prepare a social security reform in Finland. The term of office of the committee will last from 23 March 2020 to 31 March 2027.

From the individual’s perspective, the social security reform aims for a clear and well-functioning system. The committee will be developing social security in stages already during this parliamentary term, but the main aim and focus will be on social security for Finns in the next decade.

“Representatives elected by Parliament, researchers and public officials will be working in close and conversational collaboration. The knowledge base, openness and inclusion of decision-making will be strengthened. In the current, fast-changing world this is more important than ever before”, says Research Professor Pasi Moisio, chair of the committee.

The committee includes Members of Parliament from all parliamentary groups as well as permanent experts. The committee's work will be supported by five sub-committees or divisions: division for employment and skills, division for working capacity and functional ability, housing division, administrative division and division for research and evaluation.
