Batch of monkeypox vaccines arrives in Finland

Finland has received a donation of monkeypox vaccines from the EU Commission. The vaccines will be distributed to the hospital districts, which are responsible for administering the vaccines.

The batch that arrived in Finland contains about 1,400 vaccine doses. The EU Commission has directly purchased the vaccines for all Member States. 

The vaccine offers protection against monkeypox. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare will soon issue recommendations concerning the priority groups of monkeypox vaccinations. Those who are vaccinated do not spread the disease. So far, 26 confirmed cases of the monkeypox virus have been detected in Finland. 

Monkeypox was added to the list of monitored communicable diseases on 1 July 2022.
