Minister Adlercreutz to attend papal inauguration

Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz will attend the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican on Sunday 18 May. According to the Government's division of duties, church affairs fall within Minister Adlercreutz's remit.

Pope Leo XIV was elected the highest spiritual leader of the Catholic Church on 8 May 2025. His inauguration will be celebrated at St Peter's Square.

 The Pope appoints all bishops of the Catholic Church. The bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Helsinki, Raimo Goyarrola, was appointed by Pope Francis in 2023.
