New heads of mission appointed to Finland’s Consulate General in New York and Consulate in São Paulo

At the presidential session on Friday 27 February, the President of the Republic appointed Miia Rantanen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Consulate General in New York and Anna Yletyinen to serve as Head of Mission at the Consulate in São Paulo.

Miia Rantanen

At its session on 26 February, the Government appointed Counsellor Miia Rantanen as Counsellor for Foreign Affairs as of 1 September 2026. The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Miia Rantanen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Consulate General in New York, starting on 1 September 2026.

Miia Rantanen is transferring to the post from her position as the Director of the Business Services Unit. She served as Director of the Export Promotion Unit in 2023–2026. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Rantanen has gained extensive experience in economic and trade policy in countries including the United States, Japan and China.

Rantanen served as the official responsible for economic and trade policy at Finland’s Embassy in Tokyo in 2013–2017 and as Deputy Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Zagreb in 2010–2013. She also worked in economic and social affairs at the Permanent Mission to the UN in 2006.

Rantanen holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences. She joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2003.

Anna Yletyinen

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor Anna Yletyinen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Consulate in São Paulo, starting on 1 August 2026.

Anna Yletyinen will transfer to the post from Finland’s Embassy in Stockholm, where she has worked in foreign and security policy and EU affairs since 2022. She has also served at Finland’s Consulate General in New York and Embassy in Brasília.

At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Yletyinen worked, among other tasks, on a special assignment on security policy in 2022, on Arctic cooperation in 2020– 2022, and on communications and human rights policy before that. She also worked at the Prime Minister's Office on matters related to Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2018–2020.

Yletyinen holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences. She joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2009.
