Press release

Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit the United States on 18–21 October.

In his discussions with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Minister Skinnari will exchange views, among other things, on technological cooperation between Finland and the US as well as on the EU–US trade relations and global trade questions. Skinnari will also have a meeting with Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power, with whom he will discuss the technology cooperation conducted by Finland and the United States in developing countries. He will also meet other representatives of President Joe Biden’s administration, members of Congress and technology influencers.

Skinnari and Governor Tim Walz will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Finland and the State of Minnesota. Finland will start extensive cooperation with Minnesota, focusing on clean energy, sustainable bioeconomy and digital technology. The cooperation will open up plenty of new commercial opportunities for Finnish businesses.

Minister Skinnari’s visit provides important opportunities for discussion with the US administration, for strengthening trade and economic relations between our two countries, and for promoting the newly started good cooperation with US States. The United States is one of Finland's most important trading partners. Compared with any individual country’s economic weight when not only export and import but also investments and innovation cooperation are considered, the United States is the most important country for Finland.
