Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will lead a Team Finland trade mission to Australia and New Zealand between 28 April and 5 May 2026.

In Australia, the Minister’s business delegation will include representatives from the quantum, critical technologies and mining sectors. In New Zealand, the Minister will be accompanied by operators in the energy, satellite and shipbuilding industries.

Finland wants to deepen its partnership with Australia and New Zealand. The EU’s increased cooperation with both countries will help reinforce the basis for Finland’s bilateral trade relations. The EU and Australia recently agreed on a free trade agreement. Australia is a major trading partner for Finland outside Europe, with exports exceeding one billion euros.

During his visit, Minister Ville Tavio will meet his counterparts, Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell and New Zealand’s Minister for Trade Todd McClay, and business leaders. In Australia, Minister Tavio will speak at the annual Quantum Australia Conference.

“Australia and New Zealand are close, like-minded partners for us and have long attracted strong interest from Finnish companies and research institutes. Finland has a lot of specialised expertise for which, I believe, there is demand in both countries,” Minister Tavio says.
