President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss current situation in Ukraine, NATO Summit in Ankara and current situation in Middle East

In their meeting on Tuesday 16 June, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine and the need to continue to provide strong support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.

The President and the Ministerial Committee outlined Finland’s objectives for the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on 7–8 July. The summit will discuss ways to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence and the defence industry’s capacity, as well as the Alliance’s support for Ukraine.

The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed the current situation in the Middle East and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Finland stresses the importance of finding a permanent solution that respects international law to the conflict.
