Prime Minister Orpo and Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin to meet in Helsinki
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Taoiseach or Prime Minister of Ireland Micheál Martin will meet in Helsinki on Tuesday 31 March. Their bilateral discussions are expected to focus on the forthcoming Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU and on topical international issues.
Ireland will take over the Council Presidency on 1 July 2026. According to Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, the Irish Presidency comes at a time of significant decisions for the EU.
“Negotiations on the multiannual financial framework for 2028–2034 may be in their final stages in the latter half of the year. It is especially important for Finland that the decisions on boosting competitiveness and strengthening the single market are implemented quickly as agreed at the March European Council,” said Prime Minister Orpo.
While in Helsinki, Taoiseach Martin will also meet with President of the Republic Alexander Stubb.
