Government Palace to be vacated for major renovation
Starting on 2 July 2026, government sessions will be held in the Government Banquet Hall on Eteläesplanadi. During the renovation, the ministers who work at the Government Palace and the personnel of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Chancellor of Justice will mostly move to the building located next to the Banquet Hall at Eteläesplanadi 4.
The Government Palace will undergo a major renovation from 2026 to 2030. During that time, government functions will be housed in other buildings in the area. Along with the necessary refurbishments, the renovation project will improve security arrangements and enable the premises to be used more effectively.
The personnel who work in the Government Palace will move to their temporary premises in May and June of 2026. The ministers, ministerial staff and senior ministry officials will be the last to move, in late June and early July.
The Finnish Heritage Agency will look after the historically valuable objects and art in the Government Palace during the renovation. Some of the art and objects will be moved to the temporary premises along with the furniture in the session halls.
