Työministeri Tuula Haatainen

Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will visit Berlin from 31 May to 2 June. The visit will focus on employment services, their transfer to the local level and the ways to attract international workforce. During the trip, Haatainen will meet Germany’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs as well as members of Parliament’s Committee on Labour and Social Affairs.

In Finland, TE services are set to be transferred to municipalities during 2024. According to the Government Programme, transferring employment services to local level will promote the Government’s objective to increase employment and strengthen the role of municipalities in employment services.

Germany has carried out a similar reform where employment services were transferred to the local level in 2004. Haatainen will discuss the implementation of the reform in Germany and the lessons learned with representatives of several different organisations, including researchers and members of German Parliament’s Committee on Labour and Social Affairs.

She will also meet Germany’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil in Berlin. The topics of the meeting include Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the refugee situation and the reform of employment services in Germany. Finally, Haatainen will hold a meeting with representatives of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry to discuss ways in which Finland and Germany can attract international experts.
